Female Trapdoor Spiders

Trapdoor spiders are 1.5 to 3 cm in body length and the female spiders are larger than male spiders.

The Trapdoor name actually covers several species of spiders even including a species of spider that don't make a door. The M. rapax is a Brown Trapdoor Spider commonly found around Sydney. In Southern Australia the Aganippe group spiders are found and in highland regions of New South Wales and Victoria the Misgolas group spiders are found.

Trapdoor spiders prey on insects around their burrows like grasshoppers, crickets and beetles.


Distribution
